Radiance

As a performing musician, I have come to know music as a place of reflection and refuge from the world around us. Having emigrated from Russia not long ago, I feel an acute sense of pain at the tragedies which unfold each day, be they the atrocities witnessed in Ukraine or the brutalities of the war being waged in the Middle East. Lessons of the past are being ignored, promises to “never forget” have been broken, and tensions between East and West have brought us to the brink of a new Cold War. It is my hope that performing works by these composers, three of whom experienced harsh oppression, will serve as an expression of my support for the innocent people whose lives have been impacted by current conflicts. One may hear their music as both a lifeline, providing glimmers of hope and humanity during times of darkness.
